Mangroves would be a reasonable first choice. Don't expect to be able to handle yours freely, but at least it's bite doesn't compare to other "first" venomous such as copperheads and eyelash vipers. All venomous snakes are to be taken seriously.

Does anyone have any serious documentation of the toxicity of the mangrove snake (Boiga dendrophila) Is its venom a form of hemotoxin or nerotoxin or neither and just a swelling agent? I understand that it is generally not considered a life threating bite but is there tissue destruction involved? Anyone with info could you send it to me at xjinxtheclownx@aol.com. Much appreciated - Marco Zeno
